The Terrifying Secret of Room 214: The Mystery of Ghost Possession

The night was dark and silent, as Chen Long tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep.

Suddenly, a loud "bang" came from outside the window, something heavy crashed onto the cold cement ground, instantly waking up Chen Long's roommate in terror.

Everyone hastily put on their clothes, grabbed flashlights, and rushed out of the dormitory. Fifty meters away from the window on the cement ground, they discovered a body covered in flesh and blood. It was a man, with his skull cracked open at the back, brain matter and blood splattered like a burst watermelon, filling the air with a strong scent of blood that turned everyone's stomach.

"Isn't this Zhao Kai?" Zhang Yan couldn't help but exclaim when he saw the distorted face of the body. Zhao Kai was a senior of the group, and also the president of the school's Supernatural Research Association. He had mysteriously disappeared not long ago, leaving no trace behind. No one expected him to appear before them in such a horrifying manner tonight.

"Strange, where did Zhao Kai's body fall from?" Wu Chen suddenly noticed a major point of suspicion.

They looked around and frowned at the sight: the place where Zhao Kai's body lay was an empty square over forty meters wide, completely devoid of any object.

"It looks like he's holding something in his hand!" Du Feng nervously pointed to Zhao Kai's tightly clenched right hand.

Chen Long furrowed his brow, pinched his nose, and opened the clenched right hand of Zhao Kai, revealing a blood-stained piece of paper fluttering down slowly.

Chen Long picked up the paper, under the pale moonlight, the paper bore a chilling message in blood - "Do not go to room 214!"

Fear flooded over everyone like a tide. It was clear to all that Room 214 was a forbidden place talked about with horror in the school. It was located at the end of the second-floor corridor of an abandoned old dormitory building, locked with a heavy lock for years, with no one knowing what had happened there.

Chen Long silently looked at the flesh and blood-covered corpse of Zhao Kai. After a long time, as if he had made up his mind, he gritted his teeth and said, "Let's go, let's check out room 214!"

In the darkness of the night, the ancient dormitory building loomed like a massive tombstone ominously before them, emitting a series of ominous vibes. On the decayed wooden door, a large lock was shining with a dark light under the moonlight.

"Here we are." Zhang Yan's voice trembled slightly.

Chen Long nodded, walked to the door, and gently pulled the lock on the door.

With a "click," the heavy lock unexpectedly fell. "It seems someone has already been here." Chen Long said as he pushed open the two decaying wooden doors.

With the creaking of rusted door hinges, the dormitory building seemed to open its dark mouth slowly like an ancient monster. A burst of dust mixed with a musty smell hit their faces immediately. They entered one by one, and in the dark corridor, a few weak flashlight beams were like lighthouses on a midnight sea, appearing so insignificant.

At the end of the corridor, in front of a door covered with patches of color, everyone stopped in their tracks. The door was slightly ajar, and an inexplicable chill was flowing out from the gloomy gap.

Chen Long slowly pushed open the partially opened door, and the flashlight immediately dispersed the darkness in the dorm room. The room, less than 20 square meters in size, was empty, with layers of thick dust and broken cobwebs everywhere.

“What is that?” Zhang Yan suddenly pointed with a trembling voice at something.

As everyone followed his gaze, their blood almost froze in an instant. The gray wall was covered with densely packed blood-red footprints!

"How can someone walk on the ceiling, unless…” Zhang Yan swallowed hard, forcibly stifling the word "ghost" in his throat.

"Which one of you was born between the hours of Hai and Chou in the evening?" Chen Long suddenly asked.

"I was," Wu Chen timidly replied.

Chen Long nodded, then took out a silver needle as fine as a hair from his pocket. He gently pricked Wu Chen's left middle finger, allowing a drop of blood to fall onto the dusty ground. He then took out a piece of parchment and sprinkled a circle of black powder around the drop of blood.

"What are you doing?" Zhang Yan asked, puzzled.

"Summoning a spirit," Chen Long replied coldly.

"Summoning a spirit? Is that the same as summoning a ghost?"

"Far from it," Chen Long scoffed. "There are no ghosts in this world, but there are spirits. Spirits are a form of energy generated by the human brain in response to strong stimuli, such as fear. This energy will coalesce and record everything its owner has experienced."

"Is the black powder ashes?" Zhang Yan inquired.

"No, it's magnetic powder, used as a medium to communicate with that energy."

Zhang Yan nodded in partial understanding, standing silently with Wu Chen by his side.

Suddenly, the drop of blood on the ground shook violently, inexplicably flowing slowly within the circle of magnetic powder. A chilling message appeared before them: "Release me!"

A shiver ran down everyone's spine.

Furrowing his brow, Chen Long asked, "Are you Zhao Kai?"

The blood drop became agitated, continuously striking against the magnetic powder surrounding it. But every time it touched the powder, it quickly recoiled as if burned.

"What's happening?" Zhang Yan watched in astonishment.

"Spirits are energy, and magnetic fields can disrupt this energy. Even though spirits cannot think, they retain a survival instinct. They will deliberately avoid harmful objects," Chen Long explained.

After struggling for a while, the blood drop finally quieted down, unresponsive to Chen Long's calls.

"Strange. This spirit doesn't seem to be Zhao Kai's. Could there have been another death in this dormitory?" Chen Long pondered.

Zhang Yan and Wu Chen shook their heads, perplexed.

"Let's leave. I have a feeling this isn't where Zhao Kai met his end," Chen Long said gravely. After ushering the two out of the room, he gently brushed away the magnetic powder on the ground with his silver needle before swiftly departing.

Inside the room, the three of them were filled with heavy thoughts and serious expressions.

"Do you still believe there are no ghosts in this world?" Zhang Yan asked Chen Long, visibly shaken.

"I've said it before, there are only energies called spirits in this world."

"Even if it's energy, you said it can't think, only record memories. But how do you explain that blood message?" Zhang Yan pressed.

"And the blood footprints all over the wall!" Wu Chen added, still shaken.

Chen Long fell silent, deep in thought. After a moment, he spoke softly, "To be honest, tonight's events are also strange to me, and Zhao Kai's death itself is full of mysteries. I remember seeing some dark red spots on his hands, which should be livor mortis. If that's the case, Zhao Kai should have been dead for at least three days. How could he suddenly appear in such a strange way?"

Chen Long paused and then looked at the two. "Do you remember what Zhao Kai mentioned about Room 214 last time he talked to us?"

"He said Lin Bin found something strange in Room 214."

"That's the problem. Room 214 is always locked, so if Lin Bin mentioned something, it means he..."

"Either he lied or he personally went to Room 214!" Zhang Yan gasped.

With a heavy expression, Chen Long nodded.

Early the next morning, the three of them knocked on Lin Bin's dorm room door. When Lin Bin learned that they were there for room 214, his face turned as white as a sheet.

"I strongly advise you not to go to that room. There are things in there that we cannot understand. I told Zhao Kai about it, but he didn't believe me. And the result, sigh..." Lin Bin sighed heavily.

"Have you been inside that room?" Chen Long stared at Lin Bin with intensity.

Lin Bin hesitated for a moment, but finally nodded.

"What did you see?"

Lin Bin's eyes widened to the extreme, revealing deep fear, as if he had been plunged into a terrible memory.

"The ceiling...there was a girl standing on the ceiling. She was covered in blood, her face crawling with maggots. She was standing upside down, just staring at me from less than a foot away..."

"Are you saying you saw a ghost?"

"I'm telling you the truth!"

"There are no ghosts in this world. You were probably interfered with by some psychic energy, causing terrifying hallucinations."

"No, I swear on my life, it was not a hallucination!" Lin Bin's emotions suddenly became somewhat agitated.

Chen Long shrugged. "Okay, even if you saw a ghost, then what?"

"I was so scared that I turned around to run, but the door was locked from the outside. I heard footsteps outside, so I tried to break the door to get out, but the footsteps just kept getting farther away. At that moment, a cold arm reached out and touched my shoulder, and I blacked out."

"Do you know the ghost you saw?"

Lin Bin nodded grimly. "It was Li Yuan."

The three of them exchanged looks, this was the first time they had heard that name.

Lin Bin swallowed hard, continuing, "Li Yuan was a student at our school. She never believed in ghosts and scoffed at the idea of the forbidden room 214. One day, she overheard someone spreading rumors about that room in public and exposed the lies. The person got angry and made a bet with Li Yuan, challenging her to spend a night alone in there. Li Yuan agreed without hesitation. But the next day, people found Li Yuan dead in room 214 in a mysterious way. Her features were distorted, as if she had seen something horrifying. She had cut her own artery with scissors, blood flowing all over the floor..."

All three of them felt a chill down their spines.

Death's Truth
The three of them returned to the dorm in a troubled state, with each of them carrying heavy hearts, and the atmosphere became somewhat eerie.

"Could Zhao Kai have been killed by a vengeful spirit?" Wu Chen's face was pale with fear.

"I've said it before, there are no ghosts in this world. Why won't you guys believe me?" Chen Long frowned, appearing impatient.

"No ghosts? What about what Lin Bin said?"

"He's lying!" Chen Long interrupted Wu Chen's questioning. "Even though I don't understand his motives, I could tell that Lin Bin was hiding the truth from us when he recounted the whole incident. I dare say Lin Bin is concealing the truth from us!" Pausing for a moment, he suddenly turned to Zhang Yan and asked, "Zhang Yan, have you received the autopsy report for Zhao Kai that I asked for?"

"Yes, didn't I send it to your email?"

Chen Long nodded, quickly logging onto the computer. To his surprise, the first thing that popped up was an email from a girl named "Atheist." The email contained only one sentence: "Do ghosts really exist in this world?"

Sighing, Chen Long realized that this girl named "Atheist" had been emailing him for the past month asking the same question about the existence of ghosts. Though he had patiently responded, she continued to ask the same dull question over and over again. Eventually, Chen Long had to block her emails, yet somehow she still managed to send him another one.

Miss, this is the last time I will assert my position - there are no ghosts in this world! Whether you believe it or not, please do not disturb me again. Also, if you truly believe in ghosts, please do not insult the name 'Atheist'!

Suppressing his anger, Chen Long replied to the email and then looked at the autopsy report from Zhang Yan. He quickly opened it and carefully read through it, gradually a small smile appeared at the corner of his mouth.

"Just as I expected, Zhao Kai's time of death was probably four days ago, around 3 in the morning. That means, what we saw last night was just someone setting up a fake scene with Zhao Kai's corpse!"

"But I heard him falling to the ground!" Zhang Yan looked puzzled.

"That was someone deliberately trying to make us discover Zhao Kai's body. That was not the actual scene of his death. It is highly likely that someone disposed of the body, otherwise, it can only be..."

"What?" Zhang Yan hurriedly asked.

"It can only be that the body can walk itself." Chen Long said casually, half-jokingly, but Zhang Yan and Wu Chen shivered.

"Let's focus on something useful. If Zhao Kai was murdered, then who is the killer?"

"If I'm not mistaken, the killer should be him!" Chen Long's lips curled up slightly, revealing a confident smile.

Seeking the Real Culprit

In the empty dorm room, a shadow sat with a troubled expression, staring blankly at the hazy night outside the window. Suddenly, the door burst open, and Chen Long and his two roommates entered.

"Why the long face, Lin Bin? Afraid your lies will be exposed?” Chen Long sneered.

"What do you mean?" Lin Bin's look of panic was fleeting.

"I can't believe it, you're such a good actor, Lin Bin. The person who killed Zhao Kai is actually you, right?"

"What are you saying? I don't quite understand."

"Don't pretend anymore. When you were recalling everything you saw in room 214, your unnatural expression gave you away. If I'm not mistaken, the only true thing you said was about the death of Li Yuan. Because the one who was exposed by Li Yuan for lying was you and Zhao Kai!” Chen Long paused before continuing, "You and Li Yuan made a bet. That night, after Li Yuan entered room 214, you both actually locked the door from the outside. Inside the dorm room, you had already set up those scary footprints to scare Li Yuan, in order to restore your honor. But neither of you expected that Li Yuan would be so scared that she would cut her wrist and commit suicide in the room. In order to cover up, you spread rumors that room 214 was haunted, trying to blame Li Yuan's death on ghosts. Am I right?"

Lin Bin's face was as pale as paper, but he still pretended to be calm. "Then why would I need to kill Zhao Kai again?"

"You're killing two birds with one stone. By making people believe the rumors of ghosts in room 214, you can keep Zhao Kai, the only one who knows the truth, silent forever. Unfortunately, you didn't realize that there are no ghosts in this world at all. So, the more someone tries to blame everything on ghosts, the more likely they are the real culprit behind the scenes!"

"You really don't believe in ghosts?" Lin Bin mocked.

"I only believe in science. Now, do you have anything else to say?"

"Don't get cocky, we've already called the police. You can tell them all your stories soon!" Wu Chen pointed at Lin Bin's nose, gritting his teeth.

"No problem, if he wants evidence, I can give it to him!"

"Chen Long, have you really found evidence?" Zhang Yan looked shocked.

Chen Long smiled and shook his head.

"Not yet, but do you remember that I once tried to communicate with spirits in room 214? Looking back now, that must have been the spiritual energy left behind by Li Yuan before her death. Her last memory was probably 'let me out.' I've decided to try again and I believe this time we will definitely uncover the truth behind everything! Wu Chen, hold out your hand!"

Wu Chen pursed his lips and reluctantly extended his hand.

"You guys stay here and watch him. I will gather evidence that will make him confess!" Chen Long said as he turned and walked into the dark night.

Seeking Help

When Chen Long pushed open the dusty door of room 214, he couldn't help but shiver involuntarily. He took a deep breath and began using blood and magnetic powder to summon spirits.

After a moment, the blood within the magnetic powder circle started to move in a strange way.

"Li Yuan, is that you?" Chen Long asked softly.

The blood suddenly shook, stopping in place. No matter what Chen Long asked, it remained motionless. Chen Long was immediately anxious, breaking out in a cold sweat. He lowered his head in thought for a moment before slowly taking out his phone. After hesitating for a long time, he dialed a phone number...

About ten minutes later, a student wearing a loose bathrobe, rubbing his sleepy eyes, appeared in front of Chen Long.

"Hey, what's wrong with you? Why are you calling me to this creepy place in the middle of the night?" the man frowned, sounding annoyed.

"A friend of mine died, and I want to use spiritual communication to gather evidence against the perpetrator, but I'm facing some difficulties. I was wondering if you could help." Chen Long explained.

"Hmph! You always say my work is pseudo-science, so why are you asking for my help now?" the man said disdainfully.

Chen Long awkwardly smiled, not sure how to explain.

"Let me ask you this, do you now believe in spirits?" the man asked.

"No."

"OK, in that case, there's nothing to talk about. I'm leaving!" The man turned to go, but Chen Long hastily grabbed his sleeve, looking as if he had swallowed a fly, and after a while, reluctantly nodded, saying, "Du Yunfeng, I'm scared of you, I admit it!"

"That's more like it."

"Chen, have you found out why the spirit is not communicating with you?" Du Yunfeng looked at the blood and magnetic powder in front of him, sighing.

"It's because the spiritual energy fluctuations are not displaying normally," Chen Long corrected.

Du Yunfeng sneered, "Fine, it's up to you. Anyway, you need to remove the magnetic powder circle first. To a spirit, it's like a prison. You can't lock someone up and expect them to confess everything to you. You're dreaming if you think that's how it works!"

"But how can I see spiritual reactions without the magnetic medium?"

"Chen Long, there are many things in this world that science can't explain. If you want to find the perpetrator, you need to let go of your deeply rooted spiritual theories." Du Yunfeng said, kicking away the magnetic powder on the floor and pulling out a bottle of eye drops. "To communicate with spirits, you don't need to make it so complicated. Just put this in your eyes."

Chen Long took the eye drops with a furrowed brow and hesitated before using them. After a stinging sensation, Chen Long's vision slowly began to see a misty white figure.

"What is this?" Chen Long exclaimed in shock.

"This is a spirit!" Du Yunfeng smiled slightly, pointing at Chen Long and addressing the floating white figure, "This novice doesn't know the rules. If you find anything offensive, don't mind him. He wants to ask you some questions, so answer him quickly and get him out of here!"

Chen Long gave Du Yunfeng a fierce look and asked the white figure, "Are you Li Yuan?"

The figure shook its head.

"Then, are you Zhao Kai?"

The figure shook its head again.

Chen Long couldn't help but gasp, "Then who are you?"

"You're silly, a spirit can't speak unless it is attached to a person!" Du Yunfeng interjected.

"Then let him possess you!"

"Like I owe you something!" Du Yunfeng gave Chen Long the middle finger before taking out a packet of gray powder and sprinkling it on the ground, saying to the white figure, "Just write it down for him."

"Is this also magnetic powder?" Chen Long asked incredulously.

"Sorry, it's actually ash." Du Yunfeng calmly replied.

Chen Long's face was covered in black lines as suddenly, the powder on the ground moved without wind, forming a crooked line of small words - I am Lin Bin!

Resurrection Through Borrowing a Corpse

“This is impossible!” Chen Long exclaimed, his face suddenly as pale as paper.

“You better believe it, ghosts don’t lie.”

“But just now I saw Lin Bin, and deduced that he was the one who killed my friend, how could he...be dead?”

“You said you just saw him? Where?”

“In his dorm room, I even had my two roommates watching him!”

“Oh no, you’ve caused trouble!” Du Yunfeng suddenly shuddered, and ran out.

In Lin Bin’s dorm room, Chen Long could hardly believe his eyes: Wu Chen and Zhang Yan were curled up on the floor, their faces contorted in agony, their purplish-blue faces showing deep fear, and Lin Bin was nowhere to be seen.

“How is this possible…” Completely shocked, Chen Long was almost incoherent.

“Now do you believe that there are ghosts in this world?” Du Yunfeng glared at Chen Long angrily, “It seems like these ghosts are after you, did you offend anyone?”

“No!” Chen Long hurriedly defended himself, then suddenly remembered something and frowned, “Wait, could it be that the email I replied to angered someone?”

“What email?”

Chen Long quickly opened his computer, logged into his email, and saw a new reply to the email he sent to “Atheist”. Chen Long quickly opened it, and it only had a short sentence, but it made his blood run cold – No ghosts, then what am I?

“Who are you?” Chen Long trembled as he replied.

In just a few seconds, he received a reply from the other party, with two glaring blood-red words – Li Yuan!

Chen Long asked: Why did you kill us?

After waiting for nearly three minutes, Li Yuan’s reply finally came – You guessed right, my death was caused by Zhao Kai and Lin Bin. They locked me in that terrifying dorm room and only wanted to scare me with bloody footprints, but they didn’t expect that there were truly some terrifying things in that room. I was controlled by that thing and died by cutting my wrist. After death, I swore to seek revenge. I killed Lin Bin, then attached myself to him and killed Zhao Kai, but I hate more than just them. Although I made a bet with them at the time, I did consider giving up because I had heard about things in this world that couldn't be explained by science. For this, I specifically consulted an expert in this field, who assured me with his life that there are no ghosts in this world. I was still unsure and asked his two roommates who also solemnly assured me of the expertise of the spirit expert. It was ultimately them that made me determined to enter dorm room 214, where I left my life forever. Now, I want to prove them wrong with my own actions, they must pay the price for their conclusions!

A chill suddenly struck from behind, Chen Long quickly turned around, only to see Lin Bin, covered in blood, blocking the dorm room door, holding a dripping pair of scissors and walking towards Chen Long with a sinister smile.

“Stay away!” Chen Long desperately threw the magnetic powder in his arms at Lin Bin, but Lin Bin was unharmed.

“Your magnetic powder has some effect on energy-based ghosts, but once a ghost attaches to a human body, it's no different from chalk dust!” At a critical moment, Du Yunfeng smirked and stood in front of Chen Long.

“Get out of the way, this is none of your business!” Lin Bin shouted hysterically.

“Stop it, you've already killed so many people, must you kill everyone?”

“If you stand in my way, I'll kill you too!”

“In that case, don't blame me for being rude!” Du Yunfeng's face darkened, and he pulled out a pale yellow talisman from his pocket, swiftly moving towards Lin Bin and striking his forehead with the talisman. The moment the talisman touched Lin Bin's skin, it was like touching a red-hot iron, emitting a hiss of white smoke, and a faint shadow was forced out of Lin Bin’s body.

“Give me your silver needle!” Du Yunfeng reached into Chen Long's pocket and pulled out the silver needle used for drawing blood, stabbing it into his own brow. Blood instantly stained the needle red.

“Dust to dust, ashes to ashes, disperse!” Du Yunfeng shouted, piercing the needle into Lin Bin’s Baihui point on the top of his head. Lin Bin's body was immediately enveloped in billowing white smoke, and the sound of a woman's piercing scream could be faintly heard within the white smoke. After a long time, the smoke dispersed, and Lin Bin's body fell softly to the ground...

Epilogue
A strand of pale moonlight shone desolately through the window of room 214, two figures busily searching the room, as if looking for something.

“Didn’t we already get rid of Li Yuan, why are you still looking for something?”

“Didn’t Li Yuan say there was something terrifying in that room? Let’s find it!” Du Yunfeng said as he searched with a compass.

“What exactly is it?”

“I heard that a female student committed suicide in this room with scissors due to a broken heart, I believe she is the mastermind behind all these deaths!”

“Did you find it?” Chen Long shivered.

“No, maybe it has already escaped!” Du Yunfeng shrugged and looked at Chen Long with a puzzled expression, “What's wrong with you, why do you keep shivering?”

“Nothing, just feeling a bit cold!” Chen Long forced a smile.

“Are you starting to believe in ghosts now?” Du Yunfeng asked seriously.

“I do, how could I not believe!” A strange smile appeared on Chen Long’s lips, as he and Du Yunfeng walked side by side in the eerily silent campus, the moonlight shining on his left hand hidden behind him, something was glittering in the darkness, looking like a bloodied pair of scissors…
